Oct. 7, Kansas

Today we hit Kansas and headed over to Neosho Falls where my maternal grandmother was born. Her first cousin, Jay Leedy, still lives there with his wife Hazel. We visited my great-great grandparents graves, the house where my grandmother Jayne was born, and the ruins of her elementary school. We also got to see the Leedy's old farm, still pumping out oil, but no longer inhabited. The Neosho River which flooded the town in '51 and left it mostly deserted, was a favorite swimming spot of my grandmother's. We passed through Yates Center and camped out by Toronto Lake where we heard coyotes howling again.
